Timing in the Hiring Process: Tomorrow is never the same as today.

Finding the perfect employee is a grueling process! Sourcing, posting, interviewing, and assessing candidates can take months if you want to find the exact fit. While QC Staffing is there as a resource to help you keep in step along the way, you as the client and the one searching must remember that tomorrow will never be the same as today. Candidates who are actively searching for a transition or new position move quickly. Their availability could change in 24 hours of your seeing their resume! Thus, timeliness becomes highly important when finding the top candidates for your quality related positions. Don’t let them get away!

Here are 4 tips to ensure that timing is on your side in the hiring process.

1)  Communicate Your Timeline

Communicating your plans to your candidate gives them assurance. One way or another, they will know the time frame that you are able to commit to. This way, if there are other offers on the table, the candidate will know how much time to commit to considering all options – including yours.

2)  Move Quickly

Timing is everything. Moving swiftly through the process will ensure that you are getting the largest group of applicants to choose from, and that you are able to complete the placement process with the employee of your choice, not one that you feel you had to settle for. If you aren’t able to find what you were looking for in the first round, it’s OK! Start again, until you are able to find the right person for your crucial role. Efficiency through the interview and assessment process is key.

3)  Recalibrate your Expectations

If the first or second round doesn’t go so well, perhaps you need recalibrate your expectations. Are there pieces of the job that can be taught or trained? Decide which of your requirements are non-negotiable and stick to those, but give yourself wiggle room on criteria that can be taught – such as, learning your company’s software system.

4)  Outsource

Quality related positions can be particularly difficult to fill because of the technical knowledge required and the level of pre-assessment needed. Outsourcing your recruitment process to a company such as The QC Group’s Staffing division can help improve the quality of candidates while actually reducing hiring costs. This creates an extension of your Human Resources Department that is involved and highly experienced in meeting the specialized needs of your Quality positions.
