The award winning robotics team, Lazybotts, learns how to apply 3D scanning knowledge to aid in rapid creation of their customized remote control.

Minnetonka, Minnesota – QC Group had the honor of hosting a company tour and scanning demo for FTC Team #6389 “Lazybotts” last month. The award winning robotics team out of Eden Prairie, MN consists of both Eden Prairie high school and middle school students.

The November tour consisted of a firsthand look at the company’s A2LA ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited laboratory. During the tour, the students received an in depth discussion into the six different scanning platforms that QC Group utilizes to provide precision manufactures with rapid geometry recreation for projects such as computer aided verification (CAV), 3D CAD Modeling, and dimensional inspection. In addition, the Lazybotts were able to watch the process of 3D scanning of their very own robot’s remote control. From there, QC Group provided the team a STL file for which they could model around in CREO to create a smartphone holder on the remote. This enables the team to conform to new rules and regulations of the competition, while utilizing current hardware and technology.

The team is currently preparing for the FIRST Tech Challenge regional competition in March 2016, with hopes to once again compete in the World Championships in April 2016.

Due to budget restraints, the Lazybotts lost their school funding in the summer of 2014 and have been an independent team ever since. Therefore, finding community resources and supporters such as QC Group helps the team carry on and meet their competition goals for the 2015-2016 school year.
